Tummy Tuck Scars: What Inkless Revision Can Do

A tummy tuck usually leaves two scars: a long one low on the abdomen, often running from hip to hip, and a smaller one around the belly button. After all the planning and recovery that goes into the surgery, it is frustrating when the scar becomes the thing you notice.

What inkless revision does

Inkless scar revision uses a professional needling device and specialized serums, with no pigment, to trigger your skin's own collagen and elastin inside the scar. Over the following weeks the scar can soften, smooth out, and blend in better with the skin around it, including scars that healed lighter than your natural tone. Unlike scar camouflage, nothing is tattooed into the skin, so there is no color to match and nothing to fade.

Wait until it has fully healed

Tummy tuck scars keep changing for months after surgery. We treat them once they have fully healed, which is usually 6 to 12 months after the procedure. If the scar is still red, pink, or tender, it is still remodeling. Is your scar a good fit?

• Flat or indented sections of the scar respond best
• Scars that are lighter than your skin, or uneven in texture
• The belly button scar can be treated in the same session

We do not treat raised (hypertrophic) or keloid scars. If part of your scar is raised and part is flat, we will tell you which sections we can work on. Tell us about any history of keloid scarring before you book.

What to expect

How many sessions will it take? There is no honest fixed number, because the result comes from your own skin. Some people see a visible change after their first session, while others need a few before it starts to show. Healing between sessions takes 6 to 8 weeks on average, and we judge each result only after that window.

The area will look red after a session and may look temporarily darker while it heals. That is part of the process. Nothing fully removes a scar, and anyone who promises that is selling something. What your skin can do is rebuild it, so it looks and feels more like the skin around it.
